From a purely theoretical standpoint, I think the extra capacitance will simply let through more low end, though not likely in any meaningful/audible range. From a more practical perspective though, I'm curious what actual capacitor you ended up using? If you stayed with film, that's a fairly large ...

Just a theory - maybe the pot was creating a band-pass filter that only let the frequency of the hum through between 11 and 4?
