Excellent work! Your tolex work is impressive! What sort of adhesive did you use?

As for shielding, screen, perforated metal, copper foil, aluminum foil, sheet metal, and shielding paint all work. However, if you're not getting bothersome noise pickup or hum, they may not be necessary.

What mic are you using?
Thanks - but I can't take credit for the Tolex. My wife is an artist and that sort of thing takes her ten minutes and some scissors! I don't know what glue she used, but I can ask.

I don't get too much hum at all, so I may just leave it as it is. I used a good solid star ground system and ran the design past a local guy who builds tube amps for a living and he OK'd the work.

At the moment I use a Sure Green Bullet mic, but I'd like a smaller one that's easier to hold. Maybe a Silverfish Silver Bullet. Do you play the harp?

Hello, GusGus,

Thank you for the reply. It's a lucky man indeed whose wife is a wizard with Tolex!

I have played the harp off and on for a long time, but have never become proficient...never got far past "Yellow Rose of Texas," and the like. It's been on my pandemic projects list, though, and I have recently unearthed my handful of Hohners (courtesy of the another pandemic project - decluttering) and intend to give it a more solid try.

As I'm an incorrigible tinkerer with an overfull junk box (boxes, really...freshly unearthed and somewhat organized, courtesy of the pandemic), and an old, weird amplified speaker, your post about the Kalamazoo has me thinking of repurposing it for a harp amp...which might inspire me to progress to something more tuneful than 'Yellow Rose...'

Looks really good. I like the alligator skin. Perfect for harp amp. How about a demo?
