As for shielding, screen, perforated metal, copper foil, aluminum foil, sheet metal, and shielding paint all work. However, if you're not getting bothersome noise pickup or hum, they may not be necessary.
What mic are you using?
I don't get too much hum at all, so I may just leave it as it is. I used a good solid star ground system and ran the design past a local guy who builds tube amps for a living and he OK'd the work.
At the moment I use a Sure Green Bullet mic, but I'd like a smaller one that's easier to hold. Maybe a Silverfish Silver Bullet. Do you play the harp?
